Yacht race 2005
yachts going through the SOLENT
The country’s largest and most famous yachting race,
Photographs taken in the western SOLENT,from ryde to cowes
Round the Island Race,took place at Cowes on the ISLE OF WIGHT on the 18th June 2005.
Nearly 1,700 boats took part in the race and,
despite light airs for most of the day,over 1,300 completed the 50-miles
around the ISLE OF WIGHT transiting the SOLENT before the 2200 time limit.
The first boat home,a monohull,
the state-of-the-art New Zealand super-maxi "Cityindex Maximus"
Bill Buckley and Charles Brown,which completed in 7 hours and 1 minute
to take the Observer Trophy."39" seconds adrift, and first in the multihulls,
was the trimaran "Nuvu Hiva 2"
